The Meaning of Kintsugi (KINT-soo-gee)

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the damaged areas with gold seams. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, something to be embraced and valued, as opposed to something to discard or cover up. As with pottery, things can and do fall apart in life, and uninvited challenges and mistakes are how we learn, grow, and thrive. Your broken parts are opportunities to rebuild and redefine yourself. You can champion life scars instead of hiding or disguising them. My therapy practice is not just a healing methods a belief that the breaks and repairs are a valuable part of your story, and you are more beautiful for having been through your unique journey.

My Approach

Kintsugi Counseling Services is client-centered, meaning I try to get to know my clients as they see themselves, meet them where they are in their life journey, and then gently nudge them toward the life they want to cultivate. The treatment plan is an ongoing process that is continuously collaborative with the clients. Just as a well-fitted suit or dress needs customization, so does a treatment plan.

Why Book a Complimentary 30-min Consultation with Kara?

Just as you shop around for a hair stylist, a primary care physician, a dentist, and even a fitness coach, so too should you shop around for a therapist until you find the right fit. I am not a good fit for everyone, and not everyone is a good fit for me. Therefore, I encourage you to schedule a complimentary 30-minute consultation so that we can discuss your needs and goals, and I can assess if my services may be appropriate, or if I need to refer out. My goal is to get your needs met, whether that is with me or another mental health professional.
